Meet the Maker - Sara Ward
I can’t pinpoint exactly when my love for flowers blossomed—whether it was in my grandmother's garden, my mother's paintings, or my sister's weddings.
But I’ve always had a deep admiration for them. After getting married, I began assisting a friend with her family's wedding flowers, which sparked my curiosity about the entire process. The wife of one of my husband’s professors owned a floral design company called Wildflowers, and I jumped at the chance to help her with weddings. Though I knew little about flowers, I thrived in the studio surrounded by creativity.
When we relocated to Philadelphia, my passion for floristry flourished further. I worked for a local florist who taught me invaluable skills and even started my own floral business from home. Our move to Peru introduced me to an abundance of flowers, and I made it a weekly ritual to buy fresh blooms and practice my designs.
After returning to St. Louis, I felt a bit lost with my kids now in school full-time. To reignite my passion, I enrolled in a floral design class and returned home feeling invigorated.
During this time, I crossed paths with the owner of Wildflowers, who needed assistance setting up weddings. This opportunity turned into a part-time position with her. While working there, I learned that she was planning to sell the business. After several months of gaining experience, honing my skills as a designer, and growing within the role, I officially signed the papers to become the owner of Wildflowers.
